I cannot believe I haven’t mentioned this song at all. This is my absolute favorite song. My most beloved, most listened to, most hummed song. I listen the song at every occasion, with every emotion imaginable. This is my song.
“Mr. Jones” –Counting Crows
I do not entirely understand the lyrics. I understand some sections. And in some sections I am left without words. But the song, lyrics and instrumentation, feels so becoming. Like it’s on the edge of something with great potential. Just teetering back and forth. At the same time it feels free and reckless, but in a subdued way. It’s this overblown, chaotic creation. The various aspects of the song fit well together and that’s what impresses me the most. The song is knitted together so well but it exudes such an infectious feeling of freedom, of possibility, of plunging into the unknown.
Ah I just love it.
The whole album associated with the song August and Everything After is quite good too. But this song takes the cake. If a movie was made on my life, “Mr. Jones” is the opening track. Just sayin’.
“When everybody loves you, son, that’s just about as funky as you can be”. One of my favorite lines. I can’t say why, but I think that’s why it’s a favorite. It just works for me and so deeply so that I can’t say why.
I don’t really have much to say now.
Stay Excellent!
